What Can and Can't Go in a Dumpster Rental

Most everyday household junk, remodeling debris, roofing tear-off, and yard waste can go straight into a Dumpster Dogs roll-off. If it came out of a house, garage, or small construction project and isn't on the prohibited list below, it's almost certainly fine to toss in.

The categories below cover 95% of what our customers throw away. Mixed loads are welcome — you don't need to sort household junk from construction debris.

Couches, mattresses, tables, chairs, dressers, clothing, toys, boxes, kitchenware, carpet, and general clutter. Perfect for garage cleanouts, estate cleanouts, downsizing, and moving prep.

Drywall, lumber, subflooring, tile, cabinets, countertops, vanities, doors, trim, insulation, and fixtures. Both DIY homeowners and contractors use our dumpsters for kitchen, bath, and basement remodels.

Asphalt shingles, underlayment, flashing, and torn-off decking. Roofing is heavy — a single layer of shingles from an average roof runs 2–3 tons — so plan your weight allowance and consider the 16-yard for larger tear-offs.

Branches, brush, leaves, sod, small stumps, and landscape rock in reasonable amounts. Great for storm cleanup and full yard overhauls.

Washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, and microwaves are fine. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners must have the Freon professionally removed and tagged first — Indiana law does not allow disposal of sealed refrigerant units.

These materials cannot go in any roll-off dumpster in Indiana. Landfills reject loads that contain them, which means overage fees passed back to you and a trip to a specialty disposal site anyway.

Paint (except fully dried latex), solvents, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, and cleaning solvents. Hendricks County residents can drop these at the county's Tox-Away Day events.

TVs, computer monitors, laptops, printers, and other electronics. Best Buy and Staples take most small electronics free; Hendricks County recycling events handle TVs and monitors.

Car and truck tires, lead-acid and lithium batteries, and any propane, gasoline, or fuel-oil tank (even empty). Tire shops usually take tires for a small fee; auto parts stores take batteries free.

Sharps, prescription medications, and any material containing asbestos (older insulation, floor tile, siding). Asbestos abatement requires a licensed contractor — no exceptions.

Heavy inert materials aren't strictly prohibited, but they blow past weight limits fast and often need to be a dedicated clean load. Call us before ordering if your project is mostly concrete, brick, or dirt so we can price it correctly.

Break down bulky items and load flat pieces (plywood, drywall, cabinet doors) along the walls first. Fill gaps with smaller debris. Keep everything below the top rail — anything sticking up prevents the tarp from securing and the driver may refuse the pickup until it's fixed.
